While pregnancy myths are always circulating, there are also pregnancy test myths. Some myths are fiction and some are based on actual facts.

Reputable sites are very helpful with pregnancy myths. However, pregnancy myths are being perpetuated because of the internet, too. Before reading an article about pregnancy, check to see who the author of the article is.

There are so many pregnancy myths and old wives tales around it is hard to know what is true and what is false. Pregnancy myths tend to differ from every generation. Here are some very common pregnancy myths with the truth explained!

Pregnancy myths 1: You can tell your baby’s gender by the way you are carrying.

The Truth: Other than ultrasound and amniocentesis, there is no method to ensure the baby gender you are carrying. Babies are carried differently based on their position, their gestational age and weight, and their maternal weight. This pregnancy myths have been told for hundreds of years to expecting mothers, however it is not an accurate way to determine the baby gender.

Pregnancy myths 2: Heartburn during pregnancy indicates your baby will have hair.

The Truth: Heartburn is very common during pregnancy and it is not an precise predictor whether your baby will be born with lots of hair.

Pregnancy myths 3: You can tangle the umbilical cord around the baby’s neck by raising your arms above your head.

The Truth: You can stop worrying about raising your hands above your head now! This is yet another pregnancy myths!

Pregnancy myths 4: A fast heartbeat indicates the baby is a girl.

The Truth: Normal fetal heart rate is between 110 and 160 beats per minute. Your baby’s heart rate will probably vary during each prenatal visit depending on the age of the fetus and activity level at the time of the visit.

Of course, there’s no accurate non-medical way to determine the gender of your baby and these pregnancy myths are just a bit of fun!
